Movie review of “Sarfira”, it is an inspiring drama filled with great energy . Movie in which the protagonist defies the inadequacies in the system while celebrating the drive to succeed.
With the drama featuring the charismatic superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The movie takes you along in the journey as the protagonist defies social, financial, as well as psychological, constraints.
Akshay Kumar performs his part well, combining intensity and vulnerability into his role as a stubborn, flawed, and hope-filled person. One who manages to elicit the audience’s support despite his less-than-sensible decisions.
Sarfira’s real-life story is inspired by Captain G.R. Gopinath. The founder of India’s first low-cost airline, Air Deccan , which revolutionized air travel by making it affordable for ordinary people. A journey depicted in the film based on Gopinath’s autobiography Simply Fly.
Gopinath, a former army officer, launched Air Deccan in 2003, offering cheap fare. Eventually sold it to Kingfisher Airlines due to financial pressures.
Its message: dreaming big in this world where everyone tells you to ‘be practical’ is seen as rebellious.
The script works wonderfully towards building this momentum, and this is true for both halves of the script—except towards its end and in some scenes towards its beginning.
Also worth complimenting within the movie are the music and background score, as they enhance both the high-point emotions as well as the tension-packed sequences.Visually speaking, the movie remains grounded rather than flashy or dazzling.
Ultimately, Sarfira is a rousing piece of cinema that, although far from perfect, has its heart in the right place. Sarfira is a movie that not only motivates you, but challenges what you know and makes you want to follow what you consider “crazy” dreams.
